Alamast Medication - Uses, Side Effects of Alamast Drug

Alamast is taken to prevent the itchy eyes caused by allergies such as hay fever. PEMIROLAST (AlamastT) eye drops are used to prevent itching of the eye caused by allergies. Pemirolast works by preventing certain types of inflammatory cells from releasing irritating substances that cause allergic symptoms. Alamast Dosage

The recommended dosage is 1 or 2 drops in each affected eye 4 times a day. Alamast has not been evaluated in children under the age of 3.

Uses of Alamast

  • Pemirolast eye solution is only for use in the eye. Do not take by mouth.
  • Wash your hands before and after using the medicine.
  • To use the eye drops: Hold the dropper close to your eye with the other hand. Drop the correct number of drops into the pocket made between your lower lid and eyeball. Gently close your eyes. Place your index finger over the inner corner of your eye for 1 minute. Do not rinse or wipe the dropper or allow it to touch anything, including your eye. Put the cap on the bottle right away.
  • Be careful to keep the dropper tip from touching the eyelid or surrounding areas when administering Alamast.
  • Store pemirolast ophthalmic at room temperature away from moisture and heat. Keep the bottle properly capped.

Side Effects of Alamast

Serious side effects are not expected with pemirolast ophthalmic. Allergy, back pain, bronchitis, burning eyes, cough, dry eyes, eye discomfort, fever, flu-like symptoms, headache, menstrual pain, nasal congestion, sinus inflammation, sneezing, stuffy or runny nose are some of the side effects of this drug.

Warnings and precautions while taking Alamast:

  • Do not wear contact lenses if your eyes are red.
  • Pregnancy- Pemirolast has not been shown to cause birth defects or other problems in humans. However, in rats given 20,000 to 30,000 times the human dose of pemirolast, there was an increase in the number of fetal bone and heart deformities as well as an increased number of fetal implantation losses.
  • Do not use Alamast if your eye irritation is caused by your contact lenses. Do not wear a lens if the eye is red.
  • Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or if you have an eye infection.
  • Wait at least 10 minutes after using Alamast before putting in your contact lenses.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed when not in use.

What to do if Overdose

  • An overdose of this medication is unlikely to occur. If you do suspect an overdose, call an emergency room or poison control left near you. If the drops have been ingested (taken by mouth), call an emergency left for advice.

What to do if miss a Dose

  • If you miss a dose, use it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, use only that dose. Do not use double or extra doses.
